I was recently asked how people get badges and widgets for social networks in their blog’s sidebars. Truth is, there are hundreds of plugins out there that will help you with theses, but I prefer to use the original code from the platform! Fewer plugins equals a faster site and a lot of times, these codes are so easy to generate it’s faster than installing something!
Google + Badge
Facebook Badges for Your Sidebar
The easiest way to get a Facebook badge for your WordPress site is to use the badge generator on Facebook’s developer site. It will allow you to select what kind of box you want (on the left) and then configure the zie and what you’d like to show! I like to use a Like box like you see below.
Pinterest Widget Builder
To get a pretty Pinterest badge in your sidebar, use the configurable badges from Pinterest! For this one I used the Profile Badge and chose the Square option.
Twitter Has Badges Too!
I’ve tried a lot of plugins and tools to get Twitter to show up in my sidebar and none of them work as well as the widgets straight from Twitter! Go there, click Create New and build yourself a cool badge!
Get an Instagram Widget for WordPress
I’m one of those crazy people who keeps her Instagram profile private and rarely approves a follower, so I can’t show you what mine would look like. However, I think you’ll like this plugin: Yakadanda Instagram
YouTube Subscribe Badge
Thanks to Google’s developer site, you can configure your own badge for YouTube here!
What have you tried?
I would love to know what tricks and plugins you’ve used to get badges and buttons on your own WordPress site!
